Book Review: New World Rising: Jennifer Wilson by Daniel Riding

When it comes to reading dystopian novels, it is very rare that I read one without some sort of paranormal element. Vampires, Demons or other such creatures that add a touch of magic to a story. New World Rising by Jennifer Wilson is the first dystopian novel that I have read that doesn’t include a paranormal element, and I absolutely loved it.

This was a story that I easily fell into from the beginning, enjoying the world building and the characters so much so that the world around me and my Kindle no longer existed. Our lead character Phoenix is a strong and tough girl doing her best to survive in a world of destruction, corruption and the fight for supremacy. Phoenix is a girl who has had her fair share of nasty life experiences and she still carries the Demons around in her head. She is a solitary girl who is closed off to the world and the people that could potentially become friends or more.

It isn’t until she sees a young girl being chased after by one of the tribes to something inside her click and she attempts to save this young girl’s life. It’s this singular event that changes the course of her journey and she ends up in a secret civilisation where people are trying to build a life and create an uprising against the feral and political forces that seek to control the world.

Phoenix begins to get close to people much to her in a resistance to exterior affections and relationships. She begins to realise that she does have a natural ability to car for people other than herself, are not aiming yourself up to kindness from others is actually a pretty good thing.

I absolutely loved this book, and ate it up from beginning to end. The ending however was such an epic cliff-hanger that I’m hoping the author can write really fast because I need more books from her ASAP. If you haven’t read this book I suggest you do so because it is one of the best books I have read of 2016 so far, and if Jennifer Wilson keeps writing like this then I can only see wonderful things in her literary future. Thanks to this author I have a new love for dystopian novels, and she is now been added to my list of automatic purchase authors whenever she releases a new book.

An epic tale of survival, conflict and the ultimate search of truth beyond political corruption. New World rising is an incredible read that I highly recommend.

I gave this book an epic 10/10
